STD
Relationships & Dating:
While
official studies indicate that 1 in 4 sexually active
people have herpes and even more have HPV, it’s my own
personal opinion that the numbers are even higher yet. But
that’s just a personal opinion based off my own
experiences of telling a potential partner I have herpes.
If you’ve
recently been diagnosed with herpes or hpv – it’s
important that you realize that life doesn’t end here. I
like to think of it as the pool getting smaller and the
choices growing narrower, but certainly, life is by far,
not over.
Since
being diagnosed nearly a decade ago, I have dated and had
intimate relations with both those who have herpes and
those who don’t. In every single case, I told well in
advance of having intimate relations with them.
Many
cities around the world have herpes social and support
groups that you may choose to join to meet others who are
in the same situation. Some of these groups are very
active with monthly get-togethers and are a great place to
make friends and with the occasional stroke of good
fortune, you may find someone special to date. There are
also several online dating services for people with herpes
and other STDs. If you are dating people who do not have
herpes, you should always tell them of your status. It’s
only fair that you offer them the “choice” that you were
likely not given. There are several ways to reduce the
risk of transmitting an STD to your partner(s)- be sure you are well informed on
those preventative measures. The more you know, the more
confident you will be about the choices you make. For
more information about herpes transmission, diagnosis and
treatment options, be sure to explore the information and
articles we have compiled for you.
If you
would like to try your luck with an online dating site for
people with herpes, hpv or another STD, we highly recommend
Positive
Singles. They are by far the largest online social
and dating community for people with an STD.
